Average hourly earnings for all employees on US private nonfarm payrolls edged up by 5 cents, or 0.1%, over a month to $34.57 in February 2024, following a downwardly revised 0.5% increase in January and below market forecasts of 0.3%. It was the smallest gain in wages since February 2022. In February, average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees edged up by 7 cents, or 0.2%, to $29.71. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.3% in February, after a downwardly revised 4.4% rise in the prior month and compared with market estimates of 4.4%.
