Cost of food in India increased 7.01 percent from a year earlier in October 2022, easing from September's near two-year high of 8.60 percent, as prices rose at softer rates for fruits (5.20 percent vs 5.68 percent), vegetables (7.77 percent vs 18.05 percent), pulses and products (2.78 percent vs 3.05 percent). In the meantime, cost was unchanged for sugar and confectionery (vs 1.59 percent in September), while there was a sharp decline in the price of oils and fats (-2.15 percent vs 0.37 percent). Elsewhere, inflation accelerated for cereals and products (12.08 percent vs 11.53 percent), meat and fish (3.08 percent vs 2.55 percent), milk and products (7.69 percent vs 7.13 percent), spices (18.02 percent vs 16.88 percent), and prepared meals (7.84 percent vs 7.76 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices advanced 1.08 percent in October.
