Lot types and pip values

Standard, mini, micro and nano lots for EUR/USD in a USD account, with units and live pip value at each size.

Mini0.10010,000$1.00
Micro0.0101,000$0.10

How it works

Units = Lots × 100,000 Risk = Pip value at size × Stop loss in pips Risk % = Risk ÷ Account balance × 100
Worked example

Trading 0.5 lots of EUR/USD equals 50,000 units, worth $5.00 per pip. With a 30-pip stop loss the position risks $150 — 1.5% of a $10,000 account.

FAQ

One standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency. A mini lot (0.10) is 10,000 units and a micro lot (0.01) is 1,000 units. 0.5 lots of EUR/USD therefore controls €50,000.
It multiplies the pip value of your chosen size by your stop-loss distance to show the money at risk, then expresses it as a percentage of your balance. If it exceeds common guidelines the calculator flags it.
No. Pip value depends on the pair’s quote currency and your account currency, so it changes with live market rates. For pairs quoted in your account currency (like EUR/USD for a USD account) a standard lot is a fixed $10 per pip.
Risk-first sizing is generally safer: decide the loss you can accept, then derive the lots with the Position Size Calculator. Use this lot size checker when your platform or strategy fixes the size and you want to verify what it risks.
A nano lot is 100 units of the base currency — 0.001 of a standard lot. The reference table lists standard (100,000), mini (10,000), micro (1,000) and nano sizes with their pip values.
